Ask an Illustrator is a mentoring service where you chat with me either via Skype/Gchat, over the phone/email, or in person (Providence, RI only). During these sessions I will critique your portfolio, manuscript, or picture book dummy, and answer your questions about the children’s book industry.
My services are for people hoping to be published and who are looking to develop a personalized approach. I can shape each session to match your particular needs so you’ll always experience something new:
- How the Industry Works: The Basic Do’s and Don’ts
- Portfolio/Manuscript Critique and Development
- Submissions Development and Tracking
- Personalized Advice from an Established Picture Book Illustrator
I have critiqued hundreds of portfolios and answered numerous questions from people who don’t know how to begin their journey or they’ve gotten a little stuck on the way. Starting Ask an Illustrator was the next logical step in providing the most efficient and useful service to the people who come to me. Personal advice and feedback are invaluable as you navigate through the world of children’s publishing.
I charge for my consultation and mentoring services by the hour, with a special introductory offer for new clients’ first sessions. I also offer deep discounts to students.
Sessions are a one-hour minimum. It is recommended that you factor in portfolio-viewing or manuscript-reading time when you determine how long you want your session to be.
Payments will be made in advance of your session via PayPal. Once we have established a date and time that works for everyone, I will send you a PayPal request. You must make your payment within 24 hours to confirm your session date. Rescheduling and cancellations must be made within 24 hours of the session date.
