A Visit with Kids Clubhouse

Storm Codes featured on Kids Clubhouse.

Storm Codes author Tracy Nelson Maurer and I visited the Kids Clubhouse live TV show at Children's Specialty Clinic in Minneapolis on Thursday.  We answered questions about the book from the studio audience and in-room patients during the one-hour program, which included a phone-in poll, interviews, games, and songs.  Tracy, who was transcendent on camera as always, read from the book and I did a painting technique demonstration with some help from Cody, who was awesome.

Illustrator Christina Rodriguez and Cody.

Minnesota is known for its nice people, and the folks at the Kids Clubhouse were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met! They provide such a supportive, entertaining, and positive atmosphere for the patients, and we were really touched to be guests on their show. Thanks to The Dude, Gaston, Amy, Kendall, and Mr. Wizard for making all of this possible!

The Storm Codes crew with the crew of Kids Clubhouse.

An independent, not-for-profit health care system, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota provides care through over 14,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits each year.  Children's of Minnesota works to positively influence federal, state, and local public policy decisions related to children's health and well-being. Please consider purchasing a share in Kids Clubhouse to directly fund its great programming.

That is seriously adorable, and I heartily approve their use of Cooper Black in the poster. So glad you're able to do some outreach with your book!

Hi Christina! Thanks for your comment about my IF entry. Yes, indeed, always check the milk before pouring! You look so beautiful in the pictures from the Kids Clubhouse event. It's hard to believe you were ever a teenager with angst. hee hee. I promise I won't keep bringing up those old art posts! Only for a little while....

Wow, it is now officially my goal to visit your blog more often- you have such amazing posts! Your Kid's Clubhouse day sounds like a wonderful experience. And... I love your angsty teenager art. My RISD paintings were more brooding than angsty- which is weird because I, too, am more of a puppies & sunshine kind of person! :) See, there I go with a smiley face!
