Art Crush Wednesday: They Draw and Cook

They Draw and Cook logo.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I’m really craving this new blog that features illustrators who also love food. They Draw and Cook, cooked up by the brother/sister design team of Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell, is a "creative kitchen" for us artists to indulge in our more edible endeavors.  New recipe cards, crafted by some of the best talent in the industry, are posted nearly every day.

I’d like to submit a recipe of my own, but can’t decide between:

  • Stuffed Mushroom Caps: My “go-to” dish to bring to parties. They are spicy and everyone seems to love them!
  • Horchata: A somewhat complicated process, but a delicious authentic Mexican drink that is totally worth the effort.
  • Peach-infused Rum: This is one of the simplest but most mind-blowing liqueurs I make.  I cannot wait for this summer’s organic peach bounty so I can brew another batch!

I’m taking votes on which recipe I should illustrate, so please feel free to leave your vote in the comments. Thanks to Kelly Light for the tip, and for submitting her Nana’s Apple Cake recipe. It’s delicious!

I'm going to check out that blog. And my vote is for the mushroom caps. They were yummy!

Christina,

I'm voting for the mushrooms. First, I love stuffed mushrooms. I think mushrooms are one of life's great, yet underappreciated, foods. I also don't drink much, so I'm inclined to indulge my tastebuds, though your drinks have promise for a summer beach party.

Second, I can so picture a fun recipe card with little mushroom caps.

Hey, I never said they were good reasons...

What a fun idea. Since I pretty much only drink wine, I’m voting for the stuffed mushroom caps.

Ooooh, yum! Thanks for sharing the link—I've never heard of that blog! I vote for your horchata, both because I love it and because of that Vampire Weekend song. Maybe I should submit my spaghetti carbonara recipe....
