Illustration Friday: Asleep

During a fierce November storm, Katy falls asleep imagining that her heartbeat is sending a secret code to her sailor father to come home safely. The image depicts the next morning in her Duluth, Minnesota home, as the sun starts to melt the ice from her bedroom window.

This is one of my favorite parts of the book. I remember what it's like to go to bed worrying about someone out in a storm.
