Upcoming Event at the Shops at West End

The Shops at West End Art Fair and Fashion Show.

Quick event announcement today:

Feed Your Passion For Fashion: The Shops at the West End Fashion Show, Taste of West End and Local Art Fair
Date: Thursday, Sept. 23rd 2010
Time: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Place: The Shops at West End, 394 & Hwy 100, St. Louis Park, MN 55416

Fellow Minnesota SCBWI member Laramie Sasseville and I invite you to stop by our booth at this event where we’ll have children’s books, handmade bags, prints, and other wares for sale.  While you’re there, you can see the latest fashions from The Shops at West End merchants and sample West End restaurant menus. This family-friendly event is a benefit for St Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP), a local emergency program providing food and clothing to those in need.  Check out The Shops at West End website for a complete schedule and other information.

It’ll sure be fun to meet artists of all genres, try on some pretty clothes, and eat great food all in one night!  We hope to see you there!

CBIG Reception Recap

Reception of the CBIG/MCBA art show.

While I was unfortunately unable to attend the Children's Book Illustrators Guild of Minnesota show reception at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts last Thursday night, I’m relieved to hear it went well.  It’s a smaller show than we normally do, but the art is great and of course you can’t find a better location!  Check out some great photos from the event on the CBIG blog.

The show is running through June 20th on the upper level of the MCBA.  Thanks to all the volunteers who put this together!

Call for Artists: Living Creatively Exhibit

Living Creatively Show at ArtReach St. Croix.

Attention MN writers and artists!  Art St. Croix of Stillwater is holding a "Call for Artists" for their upcoming exhibit, Living Creatively.  I only just found about this myself, and unfortunately the deadline to submit unframed artwork has passed, but there is still time to submit framed artwork.  So if you have a piece laying around that is ready to go and you’d like to see it in this show, give it a shot!

Submissions may be dropped off at ArtReach Alliance on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment. The address is: ArtReach Alliance, 224 N. 4th Street, Stillwater, Minnesota 55082. You may also call 651-439-1465 to schedule a pick-up. Visit the Art St. Croix website for more information and to download a flyer.

Art St. Croix is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing arts opportunities for individuals with physical and mental disabilities and mental illness in the greater St. Croix Valley area. They provide classes and exhibit opportunities in both visual and literary arts for artists of all backgrounds and abilities. Anyone, regardless of physical ability, is welcome to enter this show.

Thanks to Brian Swerine for the tip!

CBIG Art Show at St. Thomas Recap

Storm Codes prints by Christina Rodriguez.

Thanks to all the folks who were undeterred by the rain and attended yesterday's opening reception for Minnesota Made: Through the Eyes of the Children's Book Illustrators Guild of Minnesota. It was really fun to see so many faces, both new and old, as we celebrated the event at St. Thomas University. The artwork was amazing (I love having so many talented friends!) and the networking was great!

If you’re local and missed the reception, you can still see the show. It runs through February 28th and will be on view during the popular Hubbs Children’s Literature Conference. Stop by and check it out!

Special thanks goes to the Star Tribune for the press they gave us, UST's art history librarian Sue Focke for acting as our liaison, and CBIG’s fearless leader, Vicki Deutsch, for organizing the show.
