Illustration Friday: Chicken

Mayte and the Bogeyman illustration by Christina Rodriguez

This week’s submission for Illustration Friday is from Mayte and the Bogeyman / Mayte y el Cuco. It shows the climactic scene between Mayte, her friend Pepito, and Don Apricio, where their misunderstanding culminates in loose chickens.  You can check out even more artwork from Mayte and the Bogeyman in these Illustration Friday posts.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Illustration Friday: Sneaky

Mayte and the Bogeyman illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

This week’s Illustration Friday submission comes from the bilingual children’s picture book, Mayte and the Bogeyman / Mayte y el Cuco. Mayte and her best friend Pepito suspect Don Apricio is really “The Bogeyman” in disguise. Believing he is going to sell the “kidnapped child” in his burlap sack to the town butcher, they sneak behind him and try to stop his diabolical plan.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a nice weekend!

Illustration Friday: Brave

Mayte and the Bogeyman illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

This week’s Illustration Friday submission comes from the bilingual children’s picture book, Mayte and the Bogeyman / Mayte y el Cuco. Don Apricio’s intimidating and sour attitude leads Mayte and Pepito to suspect that he’s really “The Bogeyman” in disguise and has a kidnapped child in his burlap sack. Armed with only their bravery, wits, and friendship, they plan to confront him and save the “child” before he becomes dinner!

Have a great weekend, everyone!  The temperatures are supposed to reach a balmy 38 degrees here in Minnesota, so I’m going to enjoy some (mostly) snow-free walks with my dog.

Illustration Friday: Music

Mayte and the Bogeyman illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

This week’s Illustration Friday submission comes from the bilingual children’s book, Mayte and the Bogeyman / Mayte y el cuco. Mayte makes music on a slide whistle while Don Ricardo, the neighborhood blade sharpener, hones his craft. The story features several types of cart vendors in Puerto Rico, where they are quite common, including grocery vendors, a newspaper man, and “The Bogeyman” himself: the ice cream vendor.

I had initially gotten a few details wrong with the sketches (Mayte was wearing clothes too warm for that climate) and wanted to ask my publisher for a “research trip” down to Puerto Rico to “get all the details right.” However, I suspected that request wouldn’t fly so I didn’t push my luck. Oh well…

Illustration Friday: Poise

Mayte and the Bogeyman illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

I’ve got an “egg-cellent” submission for this week’s Illustration Friday! The image comes from the bilingual children’s picture book, Mayte and the Bogeyman / Mayte y el Cuco, and shows Don Maximo transporting a large stack of farm-fresh eggs with a fair amount of poise.

Looks like it’s going to be another “Working Weekend” for me because I have some serious deadlines coming up, but I still wish the rest of you a fun-filled couple of days!
