Celebrate Children's Day with a Book Sale!

Celebrate El día de los niños / El día de los libros (Children's Day / Book Day) with a special 50% discount off books purchased from Arte Público Press! This special offer is good on orders until April 30, 2012 for events celebrating El día de los niños / El día de los libros.

This sale is a great chance to pick up Adelita and the Veggie Cousins on the cheap! (Go ahead and collect other great titles from their catalog while you're at it!)

"On the first day of her new school, Adelita learns that vegetables can have similarities and differences, as can new friends. . . . The dual message of nutrition and diversity will probably find its place in today's curriculum and can certainly augment units on food, language and culture."
-Kirkus Reviews

"The last two pages have a recipe in both English and Spanish for the '1-2-3 Super Calabacita Soup.' The bold, colorful illustrations capture the action well."
-School Library Journal

To take advantage of this offer, call 1-800-633-ARTE or e-mail your order to bkorders@uh.edu. To see a sample of the book, click here.

Illustration Friday: Spent

We Are Cousins illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

From We are Cousins / Somos Primos: after enjoying a day filled with frolicking, feasting, and festivities, these little cousins are completely spent and ready to enjoy a good book.  And as we all know, time spent reading is time well spent.

Where all my money went this month.

On a related note, here’s a photo that embodies this week’s Illustration Friday theme as well: it’s how I spent all my money this month! This October held several children’s book events here in MN, and I went a little crazy at each one.  Thankfully, one is allowed to go a little crazy when book-buying is involved, especially if these are going to be given as gifts to kids.

Have a great Halloween, everyone!

Illustration Friday: Caution

We are Cousins illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

If these kids don’t exercise more caution with their toy, nobody will be able to play with it!

Illustration from the bilingual children's book We are Cousins / Somo primos.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Illustration Friday: Crave

We are Cousins illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

We don’t eat pizza often, so every once in a while I’ll start craving it like mad. My local co-op sells this awesome prosciutto roll with mozzarella, and when sliced and laid on seasoned focaccia and baked for about 10 minutes, it makes one phenomenal pizza. Now I’m getting hungry… good thing it’s almost lunchtime!

This week’s Illustration Friday submission is from the bilingual children’s book, We are Cousins / Somos Primos. Many thanks to the folks over at Illustration Friday for featuring my submission for last week’s theme as their "Pick of the Week!"

Illustration Friday: Hierarchy

We are Cousins illustration by Christina Rodriguez.

Happy May Day, everyone! This week's Illustration Friday post is a short one and comes from the bilingual children's picture book, We are Cousins / Somos Primos. I liked how the theme relates to organization. Plus, I like shoes.

Have a great weekend, everybody!
